Chocolate Almond Banana Bread Oats

Sounds good doesn’t it!!! Next time I need to remind myself to make a bigger bowl because it was TASTY!!

I had this almost past it’s prime banana sitting on my counter so I figured it needed to be frozen(frozen bananas are perfect in smoothies) or made into one of my favorite oatmeal bowls.

The oats won!!!

As you can see I topped my bowl with a spoonful of almond butter and some mini semi-sweet chocolate chips! YUM!!!!

CHOCOLATE ALMOND BANANA OATS

1/3 cup old fashioned oats

1/3 cup almond milk

1 packet stevia(or sweetener of your choice)

1/2 small banana, mashed

1/4 tsp baking powder

dash of cinnamon

TOPPINGS

1 tbsp almond butter(or nut butter of your choice)

1 tsp mini chocolate chips

In a microwavable bowl(medium size so oats don’t spill over) mash banana. Add all ingredients(other than almond butter and chocolate chips) and microwave for 2-3 minutes, until liquid is absorbed. Stir oats and top with almond butter and mini chocolate chips.

I think this would make a crazy good dessert, too!!!! One of don’t have to feel guilty about!!!

Recipe adapted from Busy But Healthy.

WORKOUT OF THE DAY

I decided to head outdoors and get my exercise on today!! It was a beautiful morning so I figured I had better enjoy while I can. Texas Summers are BRUTAL and in a few weeks it will be sweltering at 8am.

I loaded the boy up in the jogger and off we went! I live in a neighborhood with TONS of hills so pushing a 47 pound four year old up them is an incredible cardio and LEG workout!! It was full of intervals because I ran the straight aways and power walked up the hills. I was huffin’ and puffin’ in no time.  I forget to wear a watch but I am guessing we were out for 20-25 minutes.

When we got home I finished up with a quick upper body workout from Pinterest, called Tank Top arms.

I only went through it once and my arms were burning but I think another round of it would give better results!! However, I was STARVING so decided to head to the kitchen instead. I guess I could go pound out another set or two now! Yep……I think I will!!!

My Reading Addiction

I seriously have an addiction to books! Once I start a book(a good one that is) I CANNOT put it down(unless forced) until I am done with it. I become so engrossed that I forget that food exists and fore-go sleep so that I can read it from cover to cover. Obviously, since I am a mom of two, lack of sleep doesn’t work out so well but I can’t very well ignore them all day so that I can get my “fix”!

So, what is the latest book to cause my sleep deprivation?

This is the book of the month(May) for PBF (Peanut Butter Fingers) book club and since it was on sale through my Nook for $2.99 I hopped right on that bargain(someone is feeding my addiction here!!!). If you are interested in participating in the book discussion at the end of the month, just hop on over to her blog and discuss with us in the comments section!

Here is a brief synopsis of the book that I found on the Barnes and Noble website.

On the day she was abducted, Annie O’Sullivan, a thirty-two year old realtor, had three goals—sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever- patient boyfriend. The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she’s about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all. Interwoven with the story of the year Annie spent as the captive of psychopath in a remote mountain cabin, which unfolds through sessions with her psychiatrist, is a second narrative recounting events following her escape—her struggle to piece her shattered life.

You think there is a book club discussion out there for 50 Shades of Grey?!!! I admit it, I have been SUCKED into the trilogy and will read the next two very shortly. Maybe I will get brave enough to let you in on my thought on that one at a later time;-).

After getting my kiddos off to school I knew I had to fuel up if I were going to finish my book this morning. I am telling ya, I read and turn pages so quickly, I get quite the workout…..in my fingers:)

BREAKFAST

A crunchy mix of Dolce De Leche Cheerios(YUM) and Kashi 7 Grain Puffs. I ADORE cereal mixed together!!

And a beautiful bowl of juicy, sweet strawberries!!

Once I finished my book I figured I had better get some stuff done around the house. I certainly don’t want people to think I sit home reading all day(HA!!…NOT POSSIBLE for a STAY AT HOME MOM). After tackling some laundry and straightening the house I was ready for some lunch and a MUCH NEEDED pedi! Okay, I do sound a BIT spoiled but I promise, a day like this is RARE!!

LUNCH

Honey Wheat Wrap from Honey Bee Ham!!! This was seriously SOOOOOO good!!! I am already craving another one!!!

And this is how I ended my day: Relaxing by the pool, showing off my pretty little toes!!!

Have you read any good books lately? Share some of your favorites?

My Guilty Pleasure

BODY PUMP……you assaulted me today!!! In the best way possible of course!

My arms and shoulders are barely working as I sit here typing this. Call me crazy, but I just LOVE this feeling. It feels so good to know that you have worked every inch of your body and truly pushed yourself. Today, that is what I did. I pushed through even when I wanted to stop for a break. That was my kind of workout!!!

I sit here wondering why I stopped going to a class that 1) WORKS SO WELL 2)  THAT I TRULY ENJOY (in a sick sort of way)

What I do know….it WILL be a part of my weekly workouts again. I would love to make two classes per week but if all I can manage is one, I will take it:-).

Do yourself a favor and check to see if there is a class located in your area. You will thank me for it….or your body will!!!!

I knew I would need some energy for my Body Pump class this morning but I didn’t want something heavy that would be sitting like a lump in my tummy.  HATE that feeling. This was the PERFECT choice. Light and just filling enough!

Plain Fage Greek yogurt mixed with one packet of Truvia, 1/2 cup Kashi 7 Whole Grain Puffs, 2 LARGE strawberries sliced and 1/2 banana sliced. I then drizzled a little honey over the entire bowl and ate up. Ummm, Ummm, GOOD!!!

Reality Television. How I love thee!! I know it is JUNK and probably kills my brain cells as I am watching it but what can I say, it is my guilty pleasure!! One of my favorites is the Bachelor/Bachelorette series so last night I was SUPER excited to watch Emily Maynard begin her journey to find ever-lasting love. Okay, who am I kidding? It probably WON”T last but a girl can always wish, right?

I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed with the guys this time around. I thought their introductions were a bit cheesy and while there were a couple I liked, no one just really JUMPED out at me. Hopefully they will grow on me as the season continues. You know, I also prefer seeing the men after the first night. Don’t get me wrong, I love to see a man in a tux but I PREFER to see them in real clothes. I think it is much sexier to see a man as they really are rather than stiff and uncomfortable in formal clothing.

This may very well change as the season goes on but here are my top three guys from last night:

1. Arie– Race car Driver, age 30. My personal fave! What can I say, I think a race car driver is SEXY!!

Source: ABC.com

2. Sean– Insurance Agent from DALLAS(my neck of the woods), age 30

Source: ABC.com

3. Ryan-Personal Trainer and I am not sure of his age because for WHATEVER reason his profile isn’t on ABC.com. Soooo, no pic of him. He was cute though and being a former Pro-Football player I can see Emily being quite attracted to him!

I can’t wait to see what pans out with my picks…..and whether I still like them next week….HA!!!

Since it is TUESDAY, I will leave you with another FIT TIP!!

** Make sure you are getting the recommended 8 glasses of water per day! You may need even more if you are working out or live in a very hot climate where you sweat a lot. Many times, people mistake hunger cues when actually they are thirsty or a bit dehydrated. Drink up, water does a body GOOD!!!**

ARE YOU A REALITY TELEVISION FAN? IF SO, WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHOW(S)?

Recovering From a Food Coma

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I sure did!!

I am actually still trying to recover from yesterday. You would think since all I did was read…nap…read…nap I wouldn’t need much of a recovery. However,  I have a reeaallly good reason for being that lazy, I promise.

After consuming this for breakfast I couldn’t do much else!

Mother’s Day breakfast

This was the BEST most DELICIOUS plate of breakfast food I have had in a long time!! I felt like poo afterwards but I am going to have to say, IT WAS WORTH IT!!!

BACON!!!

I love me some bacon!!!! On a funny note, my son HATED IT? I almost always make TURKEY BACON which is not nearly as crisp(or delicious) but according to Liam, real bacon is YUCK. My husband says I have officially ruined his taste buds, lol!!

MY MORNING EXPERIMENT

I have three hair tools that I use often. My hair dryer, my straightening iron and my curling iron! Each is just important as the next and they all have their own little function. My hair straightener is OBVIOUSLY for straightening my hair, curling iron for CURLING my hair, right?! Apparently, NO! Some smart and savvy hair person somehow decided that the straightening iron was just as good a tool for CURLING your hair. I have tried OH SO MANY times to do it, watching hair tutorial after hair tutorial and getting nowhere……and a few odd kinks in my hair!

This morning I decided to try it again because I HATE not being able to accomplish something and I am proud to say that LO and BEHOLD, I finally did it!!! Whoop, Whoop!!!

I found a hair tutorial that for whatever reason my non hairstyling mind finally got!! You can check it out at Peanut Butter Fingers, blog. For whatever reason, she made it seem simple and after a couple tries I got it to look like this.

Not bad, eh!!

Of course, I was off to TURBO KICK shortly thereafter so an hour later it looked like this!!

WORKOUT OF THE DAY

I started my Monday off with the usual Turbo Kick. I don’t know why but it always feels good to start the week with some sweaty, heart-pounding cardio and this class always does it to me!

Tomorrow: BODY PUMP, here I come!!!

DO YOU PREFER STARTING YOUR WEEK WITH A GOOD CARDIO WORKOUT OR DO YOU PREFER TO HIT THE WEIGHTS?

Love to Your Momma’s

Sometimes it can be hard to express in words what someone truly means to us. If only our hearts could talk, they would do a much better job of it I am sure.

I thought I would share some beautiful quotes this Mother’s Day weekend to help express the love and gratitude I feel for my own mom. While I probably do not say it often enough, I am very grateful for the woman who helped shape me into the mom that I am today.Red heart

“A mother understands what a child does not say.” -Jewish proverb

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” -Washington Irving

“Of all the rights of Women, the greatest is to be a Mother”-Lin Yutang

“Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while but their  hearts forever”.”-Author Unknown

A quote from my favorite children’s book, “I Love You Forever.”

“I love you forever

I like you for always

As long as I’m living, my mommy you’ll be.”

A

I have been reading this book to my kids for the past seven years and I can tell you, there has not been ONE time that it hasn’t brought tears to my eyes and a sniffle to my nose. It’s the BEST!

Up’s and downs, near or far, affectionate or not…..let your Mom know just what she means to you. It isn’t always an easy job but now as a mother myself, I can 100% say that is the most rewarding one I will ever have.

My Journey with Motherhood

Celebrating Mother’s Day 2005 and pregnant with my first child.

Becoming a mommy for the first time. There has been no greater moment in my life.

How lucky am I?! I have now become a mommy of TWO! Pure joy.

My love only grows!!

Looking a bit goofy but that’s okay. Love the kisses!!

My Mother’s Day Loot! They know how to spoil me, that is for sure!!

The Nook is AWESOME but the homemade goodies…they mean the most!!

Love to YOU(r) MOMMA’s!!!!!
