Two Week Ab Challenge

You know, I am liking early mornings lately but I would like them SO much better if I weren’t having insomnia at night. What is up with that?!

Normally, I get insomnia if I have something on my mind or am dealing with a high stress situation but my life is pretty relaxed and stress free at the moment. Who knows, but tonight I am praying for a restful nights sleep.

After drinking my first cup off coffee this morning, I made myself a big cup of water and added a healthy dose of apple cider vinegar.

Whoooo Weeeee, that stuff is potent!!! Normally when I drink it, I add it to a few ounces of apple juice(MUCH more palatable!!!) but I didn’t want to drink my calories so I just put it in plain water. I’ll tell you what, if coffee doesn’t wake you up, THAT certainly will!!!

Last night, my friend Serena sent me an email(well, text actually) with a 2 week ab challenge attached. It is a program she came up with for herself and she was nice enough to share it with me. Now, I am going to be nice and share it with YOU!! Serena is in the process of studying for her personal training certification so I am more than happy to be a “student” for her. Plus, she has been in a couple fitness bikini comps so she pretty much knows what she is doing :-).

Serena ab challenge

See what I mean……

Between that workout and Brooke Burke’s 30 Day Slim Down my abs and booty are on FIRE!!!! Oh boy and now I hear Alicia Key’s singing, “That girl is on fiiiiire, that girl is on fiiiiiiire…… Anyone else with me on that ;-)!!!

Before my workout this morning, I scarfed down an Amazeball that I made yesterday. If you haven’t been to the Fitnessista’s site for this recipe, do it now. These little balls are incredible!!! However, they are 130 calories a pop(and 8 grams of protein) so you have to have pretty decent self control. The good thing, the recipe only makes 4 balls so you can’t get too carried away!!

After my workout I refueled with a 2nd cup of coffee and a Chobani Strawberry Greek yogurt topped with a little Special K protein cereal. Kind of boring but it did the job.

Liam and I have a full day ahead of us. We are going on a little library/Subway date here in a bit. I swear, my kids chooses Subway Every.Single.Time. he gets the choice. I am not complaining because it could be soooo much worse. McDonalds, anyone?! I am just happy that he naturally wants foods that include veggies rather than foods that include lots of grease. Proud mommy moment!!!!!

Do you drink apple cider vinegar? What benefits have you seen from it?

Favorite body part to work? Least favorite body part to work?

I love working my legs and booty but dislike abs. My abs are weak so it hurts!!

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

ABC Time

Happy Hump Day!!

I had every intention in participating in What I Ate Wednesday BUT I forgot to take pictures of oh….. about half my meals yesterday so that idea kind of went out the window.

I still want to keep today’s blog light and fun so I decided to participate in a fun little survey I found over at Danica’s blog, It’s Progression Not Perfection.

ABC’s of ME

Addictions: Reality television. Specifically, the Real Housewives shows. They are SO drama filled and completely trash television but they have me hooked in a bad good way!

Bed size: Queen. With two kids who like to snuggle up with us, it is NOT nearly big enough.

Chore you hate- This one is a tie between laundry and unloading the dishwasher. I don’t actually mind doing the laundry, so much as folding it and putting it away. Torture…ha!

Dogs or cats: 100% dogs!!! Kittens are cute but I am severely allergic to cats so I really have no use for them. Sorry all you cat lovers.

Essential start of your day: Coffee. It is not a good morning in my house if I don’t get it right away. Thank you Keurig for making my coffee making so simple and quick!!

Favorite color: Purple…I think. I really like pink as well. I am calling it a tie.

Gold or Silver: Either. I used to be soley a silver fan(or white gold) but gold definitley has it’s place.

Height: 5’4″. I am actually a tad bit under but I think we all round up. I like my height, not too short, not too tall.

Instruments you play: Currently I play nothing but in Jr. High School I played the trombone. I pretty much hated it. I wish I played piano!!

Job Titles you’ve had: I had LOTS of jobs in high school/college. Let’s see…cashier/hostess/babysitter/administrative assistant/ escrow coordinator and my most favorite of all, MOM!

Kids: Two beautiful babies!!! They are my heart 🙂

Live: Texas, baby!!! Near Fort Worth to be a bit more specific.

Mom’s name: Valerie

Nickname: Growing up, everyone called me Suzie. A few close friends still do but I prefer Suzanne now that I am a grown up. 🙂

Overnight hospital stays: Three. A tonsilectomy when I was in high school and for the birth of my babies.

Pet Peeve: Tardiness

Quote from a movie: ” You is smart, you is kind, you is important” – The Help

Right or left handed- I’m a righty

Siblings- One brother. Sadly, he passed away almost 5 years ago.

Time you wake up: Usually 6:00-6:30am during the week but I get to sleep until 7ish on the weekends!!

Underwear: Come on….we are getting a little personal now, aren’t we?! 😉

Vegetables you dislike: Oh man, I like most of them. Let me think on that one……

What makes you late: Not much because I usually plan ahead BUT my kids have been known to make me late on a couple occasions. They ALWAYS have to use the bathroom right after we get in the car and get buckled up. Sigh.

X-rays you’ve had: Teeth and that is it. Unless we count sonograms and I have had lots of those.

Yummy food you make: Cookies and cakes!! I love baking and I would definitely say I am better at that than actually cooking. I am not a bad cook but I am not exceptional by any means.

Zoo animal: I love the elephants and zebra but the chimpanzees are always quite entertaining. Especially when they throw their poo at you…haha!!!

Pick a few questions to answer and let me get to know you as well!!!

The Metabolism Slump

As much as I don’t want to face it, I think I might be starting to experience the mid 30’s metabolism slump. Boo!!!

In the last year, I have most definitely noticed that losing weight and keeping it off is becoming more and more difficult. In the past, I could simply cut my carbs and count my calories for a couple weeks and BAM, those unwanted few pounds would be banished. Well, let me tell ya, it simply isn’t that easy anymore!!

I have been counting my calories the last few weeks and staying in my calorie range( or pretty darn close) most days of the week but the scale is moving slooooowly. On a positive note, at least it is moving but gosh darn it, I want to see it move a bit more quickly. Sigh.

I won’t let myself become overly discouraged though because that never did anyone any good. I am just going to have to get a bit more strict with my diet by eating more whole foods and less of the processed stuff. It seems that calories are not created equal, at least not to this body.

Getting older sucks!!!! 😉

Speaking of healthy foods, let’s get to breakfast this morning.

It doesn’t look too pretty but you know what they say, “Never judge a book by it’s cover”. The same can be said for this yogurt bowl.

In the mix was: 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 scoop chocolate whey protein, 1/4 cup blueberries, 1 TBSP Pb2, 1/4 cup oats and a sprinkle of chia seeds. It was quite delicious and really filled me up. I think I will make it to lunch just fine!!

I got up extra early this morning at 5:45am. That was about 30-40 minutes before my kids and it is amazing what I have been able to accomplish. Drinking my coffee in the dark and silent morning was incredible!!! I also got my workout in, daughter fed and off to school and my house cleaned all before 8:30am. As hard was it is to drag my butt out of bed so early, I think I need to make it a habit!!

Backing up a bit to last night……..

I crushed a craving for Mexican food all in the comfort of my own home last night AND kept it pretty darn healthy!!!

That huge plate of nachos only ended up being 550 calories. Maybe that sounds like a lot to some of you but if I were to have this at a Mexican restaurant, this would easily be double if not triple that amount!

The beans you see buried under the meat and salsa, well…those are homemade!! I found the recipe at 100 Days of Real Food and they are divine. I don’t think I will be buying the canned stuff anymore. The only ingredients in my beans were BEANS!!! A bag of pinto beans is cheap, cheap, cheap(under $1.00) and it makes a large enough portion to freeze some for future meals.

After dinner, I took the kids out on an evening walk.

Getting some extra cardio in was my motivation. Pushing 100 pounds uphill in that jogger is no joke!!.  My glutes were feeling it for sure!! I could have stayed out all night because it was incredibly beautiful. It was near 80 degrees yesterday and I wanted to soak up every last bit of warmth. :-). Fortunately for me(minus the rain today) the weather forecast looks like it will be nice and Spring like for a good 7 days or so. That to me = happiness!!!

Do you tend to lose weight quickly or is it a struggle for you?

Do you watch calories, carbs or other macros or do you just try to make healthy choices?

15 Minutes of Insanity

How was your weekend? You won’t hear any complaining from me!!

Friday Night

Girls night is always fun and this was no exception.

Beautiful Friends

A light and delicious dinner. I LOVE blue cheese!!!

I just have to put it out there. I passed up birthday cake. It wasn’t easy BUT I had just eaten a large and tasty shredded chicken salad from Fuzzy’s and I was full.

No need to shovel more food in just because… least not while I have less than two weeks until the end of Diet Bet!

And yeah…..that is about all I have for ya for my exciting Saturday. Sheesh, I am actually having a hard time remembering WHAT I did on Saturday. It must have been a BLAST…or not!!

My morning started off with a decent dose of heart pounding exercise!! While browsing Pinterest last night, I came across a Shaun T workout(Insanity anyone?) called Shaun T’s 15 Minute Miracle that he showcased on the Dr. Oz Show. It is basically a shortened version of his Insanity workouts.

My heart rate started out like this:

and ended much, much higher!!! With the 15 minute workout, I burned 128 calories. I was pretty impressed with that!

As good a workout as it was, I felt like I needed a little more than 15 minutes of exercise so I also included the Tone It Up Girls Upper Body Pyramid to round it off.

Last week I bought a huge container of Organic spinach from Costco and I needed to find a way to use it up before it went bad.

Not long ago, I remember seeing frozen spinach cubes on a blog so I figured I would give it a whirl.

It worked perfectly.

Now I have zero wasted spinach and convenient little cubes of spinach to throw in my smoothies to get a good dose of greens each day. Perfect!!

If you follow me on Instagram(follow me!), you know that Lance brought home some evil tempting Girl Scout cookies. Oh boy, how hard are those to resist!!!

I have managed up to this point NOT to dig in but only because I know this momma isn’t going to be able to stop at one or even two. I am better off to keep them out of sight out of mind. Now if he goes all crazy and brings home some Caramel Delights, I can’t promise anything.

WHY are Girl Scout cookies so delicious?

30 Day Slim Down

You may have noticed that I was MIA yesterday but with temps like this there was no way I could make myself stay inside.

Before you get too envious, the temps are back in the 50’s today and it is overcast. Boo!!!

And hey, if you look closely you can see just how awful the gas mileage for my car is. 249.2 miles and I am almost on empty. Darn gas guzzler!!

Good Eats

Breakfast this morning was another yogurt bowl. You can’t beat quick and delicious!!

IMG_1140This one included a vanilla Greek yogurt, pb2, sliced banana, chia seeds and a little bit of Special K protein cereal.

I haven’t shared many of my dinner photos this week but trust me, there has been some good stuff going on.

Sweet Potato Chicken Chili

I LOVED this meal!! The flavors went together so nicely and one bowl was extremely filling. I don’t think my family loved it as much as I did but I will be batch cooking this for my lunches sometime in the future.

Apricot Crock Pot Chicken

This one was a family pleaser!! My daughter even had a friend over and you know, kids can be pretty picky so I wasn’t sure how well this would go over. To my surprise, the little girl ate every bite on her plate!! I told her she was invited over to eat supper anytime she wanted. I love non picky eaters!!!

I skipped my run today. I just wasn’t in the mood, even though it was only 2 miles. I, however, did not skip my workout. I did the toning portion of Brooke Burke’s 30 Day Slim down along with some additional lower body exercises with heavier weights to finish it off. It ended up being a good 40 minute workout and my legs are shaky so I am a happy camper :-)!

Speaking of the 30 Day Slim Down…..I have decided to give it a shot for 30 days! This will not be my only form of exercise but for the next month, I am going to incorporate it into my routine. I will continue to run and I will also add in some additional weight lifting(just a little) but I figure every little bit helps and I really enjoy these workouts because they are fun. I think participating in workouts you enjoy is KEY to staying consistent!!

Check out the bags under my eyes and my no make up face. I am a brave, brave woman for posting this pic!!

Friday Night Plans

For the second Friday night in a row I have plans!!! I don’t think this has happened in years. I am beginning to show signs of a social life. 🙂

Tonight Lance will be staying home with the kids because it is all about the girls. I am sure looking forward to it. I love spending time with my hubby but let me just say, there is nothing quite like a fun night with the ladies. Not TOO fun though. It will most likely just be dinner, drinks and some girl talk. Fine by me!!

What breakfast foods do you eat over and over again?

For me, it is my yogurt bowls and oats!

Do you consider yourself to be a picky eater or will you at least try most things?

I am picky about some things, like meat but I am usually open to trying new things.

Do you wear makeup every day? Will you go into public without it?

If I am going to be home all day, I don’t out it on but I usually do wear it out in public. Trust me, it is necessary!!
