Mama Bear and Baby Bear Smoothies

Like always, I am thrilled that Friday has arrived!!

Next week is Spring break for my kids and I am pretty excited about it!! Not only do I get to spend time with them doing fun stuff but it also means that my mornings will be more relaxed for a week. Can I just tell you how much I do NOT love packing lunches every morning. Especially when my coffee hasn’t had time to take effect. The break will be nice!!

Speaking of breaks, did I tell y’all that I booked our Summer vacation? No…I didn’t think so ;-).

After going back and forth for months, I finally decided to bite the bullet(what the heck does that mean anyway?!) and book a trip to Disney World!!

While I myself have never had a raging desire to go, I know it is something my kids will love and have memories of for the rest of their lives. Of course, Disney is sooooo not a cheap trip but I am certainly a cheapy so I went as budget friendly as I could. We are staying at a budget resort(Pop Century) and while it is very basic it seems to be clean and that is an absolute necessity for me!!! Fingers crossed it isn’t bad once we get there!! By the way, if you have stayed there and have a horror story, please DO NOT share it with me. Let me live in my fantasy land, believing that it will all be quite wonderful. Okay. Awesome!!

Now that we got that vacation talk over, lets move right along to food shall we.

Yesterday I made Liam and I matching green monster shakes. I made mine Mama Bear sized and his Baby bear sized. I also used more spinach in mine and he was quite upset that I got more than he did. Seriously kid….you are complaining that you didn’t get enough spinach? I can’t say I blame him. Mine is a prettier color green :-).

You know what else is really good? Quest Bars!!

I actually tried these a couple years back and while I thought they were decent, I could certainly take them or leave them. At that time, I pretty much decided on the leave part. I was at GNC the other day picking up some vitamins for Lance and I noticed that Quest bars were now in the store(used to be available online only) and that there were several new flavors. I REALLY wanted to try the chocolate chip cookie dough but they were out. Boo!!! However, I did get the chocolate peanut butter and coconut cashew to try out. The chocolate peanut butter was so super yummy!!! I have yet to try the coconut cashew but since I have a Costco trip planned for later this morning, I have a feeling it will end up being my snack!! Costco without a full, satisfied belly = a really bad idea!!

Now that we have covered food, let’s see if we can get some fitness talk going on up in here!

I feel really great about all of my workouts this week!! I don’t know if it is because I took a week off due to illness or if it is because I am really enjoying what I have been doing. Pretty much, I am changing it up every day(even slightly) to keep myself from getting bored.

One thing that has helped with that is the website The Daily Hiit. You may be familiar with Body Rock which is also a fitness site with a huge following. The Daily Hiit is the same people who run Body Rock but in a new format which I love. Most of the workouts range from 12-20 minutes but they are stinkin’ hard core. I love too, that you can pick a workout and tailor it to what you are wanting to accomplish. They also give modifications for beginners and I will admit that I have had to use a few and I do not consider myself to be a beginner at all. The best part: All workouts are FREE!!! I love free stuff because remember…..I am a cheap-o!!

WIAW #21

Let’s see if I can manage to type this post without screaming out in pain!! Okay, it’s not that bad but my shoulders are on fire from a killer workout yesterday. A good kind of pain though. I love that feeling of being sore after a good workout, especially when it doesn’t happen as often anymore!!

It is a good thing that we are incorporating clean eating as a lifestyle rather than a diet. Last night, my daughter had her end of the season basketball party at CiCi’s pizza. If you have ever been you know that there are very limited healthy eating option. For what I had to choose from, I am quite happy with the choices I made. And you know what, it felt SO GOOD to walk out of there knowing that although I wasn’t able to eat completely clean, I didn’t have to feel guilty about it. If I had put myself on a “diet” I would still be beating myself up!!

Alrighty, now it is time to see just what I ate yesterday.

What I Ate Wednesday

Meal 1:  Again, this is not necessarily “clean” but it only has 5 ingredients so I am more than okay with it. I hate to waste food and this cereal needed to be finished up so I had a cup (one serving) along with a sliced banana and almond milk. Of course, there was also a delicious cop of coffee but I didn’t snap a picture.

Meal 2: Leftovers!! Blue cheese stuffed buffalo turkey meatballs, quinoa with sun dried tomatoes and asparagus added in. So, So Good!!! Franks hot sauce is definitely a staple in our house. I put that sh*t on everything!!!

Meal 3: Rice cake with Adam’s natural peanut butter and dark chocolate chips. This is a new to me peanut butter but it is quickly becoming a fave!!! I hope my local store continues to carry it.

Meal 4: Cinnamon Swirl Protein Bread. I had this shortly before heading to CiCi’s so that I would be less likely to indulge in pizza. It worked!! If you haven’t made this bread, I highly recommend that you make it like NOW!!!

Meal 5: Like I said before, CiCi’s has pretty limited healthy options(if any) but I did the best with what I had. I started out with a salad, topped with light Italian dressing and a bowl of chicken noodle soup. The chicken was actually fake little cubes of something so I picked around that and ate the broth, noodles and veggies. I did help myself to one piece of pizza but hey, it has spinach on it so it couldn’t be all bad, right? Right?!


Do you have a favorite body part to work? Mine is usually legs but since tank top weather is fast approaching, I want to make sure my arms and shoulders are getting the attention they deserve.

Spicy food. Like or dislike? I love spicy foods!!

Clean Eating: A Family Affair

The day is bright and shiny and I have to say, I think my attitude it going to match the day!! I am actually going to try to make this a quick post because I need to get my house all nice and clean so that I can get outside and enjoy the GORGEOUS 85 degree weather. Spring is in the air and it cannot get here fast enough for me!!!

So let’s talk about this weekend. It was actually fairly busy but I didn’t take many pics to document it. Sorry about that but you know, sometimes it is much more fun to just enjoy and not worry about having the camera handy.

Saturday finished up the basketball season for Camryn. Her team was really good this year but Camryn kind of struggled to keep up with many of the girls. In all fairness, she is the smallest on her team AND she is the only one who had never played before. Bless her heart, she is all arms and legs and it is quite noticeable on the court…haha. However, my baby girl got “Most Improved” for the season and she really did deserve it. She has made leaps and bounds in her ability so I was really proud of her!!

The last month or so, Lance has been on a journey to lose a few pounds. He isn’t big by any means but he realized that he could stand to be a bit lighter and leaner(for health reasons, too) but the process hasn’t been going as quickly as he wanted. The man was a beanpole in high school and up until recently could drop weight just by slightly altering his eating plan. It seems though, he may be in the mid 30’s metabolism slump as well because it has become a bit harder. After talking about our diets and health this weekend we decided to really commit to a clean lifestyle, making it a family affair!!

We aren’t going to go all crazy or anything but we are going to try to keep processed foods to a minimum. We are going to buy the majority of our clean eating foods from Costco because if both of us(plus the kids for the most part) are going to eat this way, we will go through food pretty quickly. To give an idea this will be what our staples look like:

  • Chicken breast
  • Extra lean ground turkey
  • Tilapia
  • Oats
  • Quinoa
  • Organic Eggs
  • Plain Yogurt
  • Fruits like: Berries, Bananas, apples
  • Veggies: Spinach, Asparagus, Broccoli,  Sweet Potatoes, Onion and Celery
  • Natural Peanut Butter and Almond Butter
  • Almonds and Walnuts
  • Ezekiel Bread

Obviously, there will be other items as well but these are the groceries I plan to make sure we have around at all times. I have to say, I am really excited that Lance has finally jumped on board and I am proud of him, too!!

Another aspect of the clean eating is going to be batch cooking. I don’t love that part of it but it is necessary to make sure we have success with the it. Lance leaves for work at 5:30am so obviously that does not give him time to make breakfast in the morning. Before, he would eat a bowl of cereal and a fruit flavored yogurt. Not too awful in the calorie department but the sugar was WAY too much.

Yesterday I cooked up a bunch of egg muffin cups so that he will be set for the week.  He can grab a few of those along with some Ezekiel toast topped with natural peanut butter and voila, a clean protein packed breaky!!!

These were super easy to make, too!! Basically, you just mix up everything like you were making scrambled eggs, pour them into a greased muffin tin and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes!! Use whatever add-ins sound good to you!! I used an onion mix, feta cheese and some turkey.

Another thing to ensure our success: Make sure we have something we can munch on when we are feeling snacky. Obviously, fruits and veggies are good for this but sometimes you want something that feels a bit more sinful. Enter: Jamie Eason’s Cinnamon Swirl Protein Bread.

This bread in INCREDIBLE!!!!! I even used less sweetener than recommended (I don’t like to use a lot of artificial sweetener, even Truvia or Stevia) and it was still super tasty. Lance even made the comment that it would be a fantastic dessert for someone who isn’t eating clean. I must say, I agree!!

Also, if you follow the recipe linked above, also know that I didn’t add the egg whites and it turned out just fine. I somehow skipped over that ingredient when I was making them, Oops!!

Just for the record, while this is definitely something we plan to make a lifestyle there will be moments of weakness and indulgence I am sure. Overall, our goal is just to cut out as much junk(processed food) as possible and replace it with healthier options. If we can make it so that we are following an 80/20 plan, I will feel as if we have accomplished our goal!!

Sloppy, Sloppy Joes

Gooood Morning!!!

How is everyone finding themselves on this Monday morning? If you were having too much fun this weekend to hop on the internet (and my blog) you can check out what I had to say yesterday if ya feel like it. If not, that is A-OK, too!! 🙂

I was able to get some meal planning done this weekend which is always nice!! I have been so much better about it than I used to but some weeks I could certainly do better. I am pretty much excited for my menu this week as I think I have some yummy dinners in my future!!

We are going to start with last nights dinner because it was downright tasty!!!

Turkey Sloppy Joes Baby!!!

This recipe is one that I have made several times and it continues to be a hit. It is super delicious and comes together in about 30 minutes. The original recipe actually calls for it to go in the slow cooker but let me tell you, it works just as well on the stove top!! I don’t know what it is but something about this messy meal just makes me happy. I think because it takes me back to childhood. I mean, who didn’t like sloppy joe night as a kiddo?!


To complete the meal, I roasted up some ranch red potatoes!! Mmmmmm, mmmmm good!!


Meal Plan: Week of February 25th

I may change some of the days around based on what I am in the mood for but you get the basic idea!!!


I am still debating about whether I am ready to return to it today or not. I am cautiously optimistic that I am starting to feel better but I don’t want to overdue it and set myself back. I still have quite a bit of congestion and my ear is still stopped up but my chest doesn’t feel nearly as tight. I am thinking I will play it by ear(no pun intended!!) as see how I feel this afternoon. If my energy is up, I will pop in a Jillian Michael’s or Brooke Burke video and if not, I will just sit on my couch and be lazy.

Except not really, because I have a house to clean. That is exercise in itself!!

National Food Holidays: March Edition

How is it that National Margarita Day and National Banana Bread Day both fell in the same weekend and I missed them?! Not fair!!!I guess I could make up for it by consuming both in one day. I mean, it is still the weekend!! 😉

I am thinking that a margarita might do a better job of making me feel well than all this medicine I am on. I guess if I am not feeling better by tomorrow it is off to the Dr. I go. I just hate wasting money on co-pays and meds but I dislike feeling miserable even more.

Now back to that subject of food!!! Specifically, National Food Days. Since I didn’t do such an outstanding job of keeping up with the ones that just passed, I thought I would do a little research and see what was coming our way in March.

Oh boy, there are some good ones!!!

March 1st, National Peanut Butter Lovers Day

March 6th, National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day

March 7th, National Cereal Day

March 14th, National Potato Chip Day

And for those of you who might like weird(read: GROSS) things like this, March 30th is National Turkey Neck Soup Day. I may have just thrown up in my mouth a bit over that one!!!!


As always I had a wonderfully delicious cup of coffee this morning. Actually, I may have had two but shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone!!!

My most favorite way to drink my coffee is with a little splash of creamer. My 2nd favorite way:

Coffee was followed by this gorgeous plate of food!! It may not be “National Breakfast Sandwich Day”, officially, but I sure celebrated it up in our house this morning!!

Homestyle biscuit, no nitrate bacon(the REAL stuff) and a fried organic egg.

Such a nice way to start the morning, minus the hacking, sniffing and stopped up ear!!!
