Spring Starts NOW!!

Sayonara Winter, and hello Spring!!! Today is the first day of Spring and I could not be more excited about it, y’all!!!

To celebrate, this morning I headed out for a nice two mile walk/jog around my neighborhood. It was actually a bit chilly when I started out(50 degrees) but I warmed up a couple minutes into it and really enjoyed the slightly cooler temps, especially with the sun shining down on me.

You know what else made my run enjoyable?

My new IPhone 5!!!

Yesterday I found out I was eligible for an upgrade and boy was it needed. My last piece of crap phone,  the Samsung Infuse was irritating me on a daily basis. It was constantly freezing and frustrating me so I was pleased to get rid of it. Of course, I am a cheap-o as I have mentioned many times before so I figured I would just get the free upgrade(IPhone 4) or the 4s if I was really convinced by the salesperson.

I went to Best Buy to upgrade and they have a phone trade-in policy. I was able to trade my old phone in and get a $105 credit towards a new IPhone. Now, that is what I am talking about, people!! Long story short(ish), I ended up with the IPhone 5 and couldn’t be happier with it!! I also ended up with an $80 case to protect it because this momma can’t afford to purchase a new one before her two years are up. Ha!!

Back to that whole workout thing now!! After my run, I came home and did a quick upper body workout. It may have been quick but it killed. There was really no rhyme or reason to it but it kind of looked like this:

  • bicep curl to shoulder pess
  • overhead tricep extension
  • triple scoops(these kill, for real!!!)
  • salt and peppers(another killer!!)
  • tricep kickbacks
  • pushups

I did about a minute of each exercise without rest and then went back through and did a few more randomly. Cause I am like that….kind of random, ya know 😉

After working out I was S-T-A-R-V-I-N-G!! I should mention that it was almost 10am by this time and all I had consumed thus far was a cup of coffee. Bad girl.

I whipped up a quick breakfast of Ezekiel raisin toast with some natural peanut butter and a cup of Oikos Banana Creme Yogurt. Delicious and filling. Sort of. It will at least hold me over until lunch time which will be happening in oh….about 45 minutes!!

Now however, it is time for me to get cleaned up because I have some errands to run. Between my little Liam having his 5th birthday party this weekend and Easter next weekend, I have some major party planning to get finished up.

Where I lost my Trader Joes Viriginity

Instead of asking, I am just going to assume that everyone watched the Super Bowl last night. And if you didn’t catch at least a couple minutes of it, surely you have seen some of the commercials from it, right?! And if no commercials, maybe you at least saw or heard about Beyonce’s performance?

While I didn’t really care too much who won, I was sort of rooting for San Francisco. After all, if I could pack up and move anywhere, that is definitely on my top three list. I LOOOOOVE that place.

Lance I went a couple years ago for vacation and I immediately fell in love.  The weather is gorgeous, there were fit people running around everywhere and it was the place I lost my Trader Joe’s virginity. That in itself, says it all. 😉

As much as I love using the Super Bowl as an excuse to consume mass amounts of crap food, I decided against it this year. The Diet Bet final weigh in is this week, and since I am not as close to my goal weight as I want to be, I kept it healthy. Healthy however, did not mean boring!!

I made these Feta Stuffed Buffalo Turkey meatballs from Iowa Girl Eats and they were incredible!!! With this meal, I honestly did not miss stuffing lots of junk in my face. These were so delicious and filling!!!

Now on to those Super Bowl commercials.

Can I just say, I WILL NOT be using Go Daddy as a hosting service. Ever! That commercial grossed me out so badly that I can’t even bring myself to post a link to it. I think it was the sounds that did me in. Gag.

Without a doubt, the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial. Yeah….my hubby works with Anheuser Busch so that is part of the reason but mostly, it just pulled at my heart strings.

In non Super Bowl news, I picked up this green juice at Costco over the weekend. It looks disgusting but it tastes really good. It has all kinds of good stuff in it like wheat grass and barley grass. I tell my son that it is the Incredible Hulk drink and he believes me. It also makes him guzzle it down!!

I will be adding the February challenge into my routine because I feel like I am kind of “stuck” and I need something to get my body moving. 15 Minutes of Insanity

I just have to put it out there. I passed up birthday cake. It wasn’t easy BUT I had just eaten a large and tasty shredded chicken salad from Fuzzy’s and I was full.

No need to shovel more food in just because…..at least not while I have less than two weeks until the end of Diet Bet!

And yeah…..that is about all I have for ya for my exciting Saturday. Sheesh, I am actually having a hard time remembering WHAT I did on Saturday. It must have been a BLAST…or not!!

Sunday

My morning started off with a decent dose of heart pounding exercise!! While browsing Pinterest last night, I came across a Shaun T workout(Insanity anyone?) called Shaun T’s 15 Minute Miracle that he showcased on the Dr. Oz Show. It is basically a shortened version of his Insanity workouts.

My heart rate started out like this:

and ended much, much higher!!! With the 15 minute workout, I burned 128 calories. I was pretty impressed with that!

As good a workout as it was, I felt like I needed a little more than 15 minutes of exercise so I also included the Tone It Up Girls Upper Body Pyramid to round it off.

 

 

Last week I bought a huge container of Organic spinach from Costco and I needed to find a way to use it up before it went bad.

Not long ago, I remember seeing frozen spinach cubes on a blog so I figured I would give it a whirl.

It worked perfectly.

Now I have zero wasted spinach and convenient little cubes of spinach to throw in my smoothies to get a good dose of greens each day. Perfect!!

If you follow me on Instagram(follow me!), you know that Lance brought home some evil tempting Girl Scout cookies. Oh boy, how hard are those to resist!!!

I have managed up to this point NOT to dig in but only because I know this momma isn’t going to be able to stop at one or even two. I am better off to keep them out of sight out of mind. Now if he goes all crazy and brings home some Caramel Delights, I can’t promise anything.

The Secret to Weight Loss

I am actually kidding….you knew that, right?! However, the idea behind it, which is eating the foods you like in moderation really IS the key to weight loss and weight control. Now if only I can remember this in the future. It is hard to do when you have the appetite of a 300 pound man!!

Since we are on the subject of food(but when are we not), I thought I would share a couple of my meals from yesterday. Only because they were so tasty. 🙂

For lunch I had a couple of eggs(one whole, one white) along with a veggie burger and it was crazy delicious. I am loving eggs lately, especially the organic ones I have found at Costco. Of course if you top anything with Franks Buffalo sauce it is bound to be delicious!!

We recently ran out of propane for our grill and since it has been a bit cold for grilling anyway, I decided to try a new approach to making turkey burgers last night. I stuck them under the broiler for probably 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway through and they turned out pretty darn good. I maybe could have taken them out a couple minutes sooner but I am a paranoid freak about eating under cooked meat so I prefer it dry over food poisoning. That’s just me, though. 😉

2013 Goals: Creating a Better Me

I hope y’all having a wonderful start to 2013!!!

I have to be honest, I am lagging a bit behind today due to a night of exceptional fun. While I more than enjoyed myself last night I am paying for it dearly today.

I should mention that I rarely ever drink so give me a bottle of wine all to myself and the end result is quite entertaining. 😉

The evening started off with some great food!

Somewhere in the time we were waiting to ring in the New Year, that one glass of wine turned into a couple more which led to me shaking my tail feather…..

I LOVE to dance and since we were at a house party I could be as silly as I wanted and just enjoy myself!! Oh yes, and dance in my sweats!! I quickly changed into these to make sure I was comfy as I showed everyone how to “drop like like it’s hot”!! Yes, yes….I am truly a nerd :-).

My little guy takes after his momma. He has some pretty good moves himself!

It was a great way to bring in a new year, especially being surrounded by those that I love!!!

2013 Goals: Creating a Better Me

Over the last few years, I had pretty much given up on making New Year Resolutions. Like so many other people I would start them but not always follow through, winding up feeling disappointed in myself.

I feel like this year is going to be different, though. I am ready to make some goals for myself and now that I am armed with some tips on how to achieve them, I am pretty excited to be given a “fresh start” in some of the areas of my life I would like to improve upon.

Fitness

  • I want to continue working out on a regular basis, whether it comes in the form of cardio, strength training or ideally, a combination of them. I really want to get back to running semi-regularly and I am making a goal to run in at least two(start small!!) races this year. I don’t care what the distance is but I want to commit to doing something that pertains to running.

Diet

  • My focus this year is going to be on consuming less processed foods and more whole foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains and lean meats(limited amounts of meat). I know protein in essential for a healthy body but I hope to continue eating meat free a couple times per week as my body feels its best when I eat this way.
  • Portion control. While I eat pretty healthy about 70% of the time, it is the other 30% that is getting me. Not only do I tend to eat less than healthy foods at this time but I consume them in larger quantities than necessary.

Weight loss

  • Lose 8-10 pounds. I was hesitant to make this a goal for myself because I truly believe that the scale isn’t always the best reflection of living a healthy lifestyle. Still, I know that if I want my pants to fit better and to be happy with my appearance in the mirror(and pictures) a slight drop in the scale is going to be required.

Family

  • Spending more quality time with my family.

More date nights with my husband, even if that means watching am uninterrupted movie while cuddled up on the couch together.

Exercising more patience with my kids. This also includes less yelling. It is far from my best quality and I badly need to work on this. Yelling does not accomplish anything other than making me feel guilty after the fact

  • Spending more time with God. At least three(hopefully four or more) days per week I want to sit down with my study bible or YouVersion(an app for your phone) and spend 15-20 minutes of uninterrupted time reading His word and reflecting on being the person He desires me to be.

While I know life in general doesn’t always go according to plan, I have high hopes for a wonderful 2013. I am going to do my best to make it one of my best years yet and when life throws me some obstacles(it WILL happen), I will take them one at a time, thankful in the knowledge that those moments are the ones that make me a stronger person.
