Spring Starts NOW!!

Sayonara Winter, and hello Spring!!! Today is the first day of Spring and I could not be more excited about it, y’all!!!

To celebrate, this morning I headed out for a nice two mile walk/jog around my neighborhood. It was actually a bit chilly when I started out(50 degrees) but I warmed up a couple minutes into it and really enjoyed the slightly cooler temps, especially with the sun shining down on me.

You know what else made my run enjoyable?

My new IPhone 5!!!

Yesterday I found out I was eligible for an upgrade and boy was it needed. My last piece of crap phone,  the Samsung Infuse was irritating me on a daily basis. It was constantly freezing and frustrating me so I was pleased to get rid of it. Of course, I am a cheap-o as I have mentioned many times before so I figured I would just get the free upgrade(IPhone 4) or the 4s if I was really convinced by the salesperson.

I went to Best Buy to upgrade and they have a phone trade-in policy. I was able to trade my old phone in and get a $105 credit towards a new IPhone. Now, that is what I am talking about, people!! Long story short(ish), I ended up with the IPhone 5 and couldn’t be happier with it!! I also ended up with an $80 case to protect it because this momma can’t afford to purchase a new one before her two years are up. Ha!!

Back to that whole workout thing now!! After my run, I came home and did a quick upper body workout. It may have been quick but it killed. There was really no rhyme or reason to it but it kind of looked like this:

  • bicep curl to shoulder pess
  • overhead tricep extension
  • triple scoops(these kill, for real!!!)
  • salt and peppers(another killer!!)
  • tricep kickbacks
  • pushups

I did about a minute of each exercise without rest and then went back through and did a few more randomly. Cause I am like that….kind of random, ya know 😉

After working out I was S-T-A-R-V-I-N-G!! I should mention that it was almost 10am by this time and all I had consumed thus far was a cup of coffee. Bad girl.

I whipped up a quick breakfast of Ezekiel raisin toast with some natural peanut butter and a cup of Oikos Banana Creme Yogurt. Delicious and filling. Sort of. It will at least hold me over until lunch time which will be happening in oh….about 45 minutes!!

Now however, it is time for me to get cleaned up because I have some errands to run. Between my little Liam having his 5th birthday party this weekend and Easter next weekend, I have some major party planning to get finished up.

A Sweaty Mess

Happy Friday!!! I am especially excited about this one because it starts a three day weekend for me!! Lance has Monday off of work and my kids are out of school so we get an extra day to have some family fun. That’s what I’m talking about!!! 🙂

Of course, I don’t know how much fun parent/teacher conferences and eye Dr. appointments are but hey, we will make the best of it.

I am definitely getting a late start to blogging today. Sorry about that but after I dropped my kids off at school, I came home and hopped back in my bed. I know, lazy right!? Honestly, my tummy was feeling kind of wonky so I put my run on hold and decided to see if a little nap would help. I am happy to report that INDEED, it did!!! My stomach is feeling better….though my legs are feeling a bit sore now!!

Last nights leftovers made a perfect lunch. Hidden veggie spaghetti noodles topped with marinara, broccoli and a couple chickpea balls. Those balls are delicious!!! I found the recipe for them at Back to Her Roots. She used them to make subs which would be incredible but I just ate them as an addition to my spaghetti and sauce.

Breakfast

Let’s take a minute to backtrack to breakfast because it was just too good not to share!!

Pumpkin Overnight Oats

In the mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup almond milk
  • 1 TBSP chia seeds(for extra thickness)
  • 3 TBSP pumpkin

This morning I simply added a drizzle of pure maple syrup and this breakfast in a jar was ready to go. It was SO SO good!!!!

Before I finish this up I have to offer up a couple of “Let’s Go” cheers!! You know, I figure if I put it in writing the good luck vibes will go further…..or something like that ;-)!!!

1. Lance is playing in a golf tournament today and if his group comes in first, second or third they win 2 round trip airline tickets as prizes!!! I really want those so fingers crossed everyone brings their A game today!!!!

2. The Texas Rangers are playing in a wild card game today and because they haven’t been bringing their A game lately, I am a bit worried about them winning this one. If you didn’t notice, in the above “sweaty mess” picture I am drinking out of my lovely plastic Texas Rangers cup cause I like to think I am good luck for them and obviously that’ll do it….ha!!

3. This one goes to my good friends Chris and Brandi because last night they signed up to run in the Color In Motion 5K with Lance and I. I am beyond excited to do this as a group and even more excited that they have committed to it. They will do so well(keep training guys!!!) and I cannot wait for them to experience their first runners high after completing a race!!!

Taco Tuesday….On a Monday!!

Good morning!!!

I am feeling full of energy this morning, despite the crick in my neck that just doesn’t want to go away. It is a touch better but turning my head is still quite the obstacle.

I am guessing that my workout last night didn’t do much to help but hey, I needed that workout and it was totally worth keeping the crick in my neck!

Yesterday’s Workout

  • 2 mile run- Really hard. Must start running more often!!!
  • 20 squats, 20 shoulder presses, 10 burpees, 20 bicep curls

My run was pretty pokey but I haven’t been running consistently in quite a while. My legs and my lungs ached but I only left myself stop for one walk break(on a very steep hill). During the run I got a little irritated at myself when I heard my time on my Nike plus so I had to remind myself that it wasn’t important. I was out there getting it done and THAT is what mattered!!

As you can see, last nights workout was a little different than the other 5 Factor workouts that I had been doing.

Here’s the deal: While I totally support the idea of shorter workouts being effective, I have decided that I want to do them in my own way. I was a bit bored last week, keeping to the prescribed workouts. I have no doubt I would have seen results strictly following the 5 Factor plan BUT I have decided to modify the plan to make it desirable to me. Working out should be something that I look forward to (at least most the time.) I will continue with workouts that range in time from 25-45 minutes but will incorporate my own circuit and lifting schedule so that it is more enjoyable!

Dinner

Last nights dinner was a big plate of taco salad!!

This was SO, SO good!!! I haven’t had it in quite a while but it is going back into regular rotation. Of course, next time I will have to save it for Tuesday. A few months ago, we had “Taco Tuesday” every week and the kids really looked forward to it.  Last night when I told my daughter what we were having she said, “But mom, it isn’t even Tuesday”!!

This Morning

Part of the reason for my energy this morning, besides the awesome cup of coffee I had was the power walk I got in bright and early. After dropping my daughter off at school, I came home, laced up the sneakers, got the boy in the jogging stroller and off we went.

It was a brisk 64 degrees this morning and I loved it!! I have the hardest time keeping my workouts indoors during the Fall. I get a bit giddy knowing I get to head outside, enjoy beautiful weather and bask in the “Fall-like” smell in the air. Is it just me, or does anyone else know the smell I am speaking of? I can’t really describe it but it is like a natural uplifting drug!!

Speaking of Fall, I think we found the most festive house in the neighborhood!

I bet this will be the house to hit up come Halloween night!!!

Breakfast

When we got home, I decided to fuel up with some peanut butter and jelly Ezekiel toast, topped with chia seeds.

Yum!!

Do you decorate for the Holidays? Inside or out? I have a wreath on my door and a few Fall items on the mantle but I definitely keep it simple….until Christmas!!
